  1. There was a very large fire on Shielmartin about five years ago; it lasted for a fortnight and all the camps near the hill were in danger and they had to be taken down. Many people from all parts of Dublin to all the fire, and men were put on guard at night to watch it. All the houses in "Somali Village" were in danger of being burnt but only one garage was injured, because the Fire Brigade arrived and the house was saved. When the fire was over the hills was left without furze or green of any description. It was started through neglect of some people in the Village burning weeds.
