- One bright night two men were coming from a house where they had been card-playing. It was about 12 oclock at night. The night was fine and very bright. They had to pass by a lake. When they were about 10 yards off home they heard the noise of bugles and horses coming behind them. As they came along to another lonely place they saw people dancing and playing in a field. They both were afraid so they never spoke to each other until they were eight yards from their homes. So these two men were never out late card-playing again.
