1. Turf-Cutting

   There is no bog to cut turf in the parish. Indeed turf was always a scarcity here. There were some little bogs little yeas and years ago. There was one quite close to the schol at Rusheen Eamonn and Bawn Strand and the people still remember when turf was cut there.
   It is covered by the tide now. A hundred years ago and less the people had to resort to the dried buailtreoe as fuel, timber being also scarce here.
   They gathered the buailtreacs in heaps and dried in the dield and then used them for the fire. The Land Commission gave the farmers of this district an acre of bog a piece on Owenwee bog.
   Owenwee is about eight miles from Westport on the
