  1. A fairy king named Niall-na-h-ard or Neil of the Heights long ago.
He lived on Knockamany and he ruled over Strabreagy and as it was of little use to him he gave it on easy terms to one of the Tuath Dé Danann's named Manannan.
Manannan was God of the Sea or Mac Lir, it was from Manannan that the Isle of Man got its name.
Manannan understood the use of magic and he placed three rods in the bar mouth and the sea came no further.
Manannan got three young men and he built a castle and placed them in charge of it.
Then Niall-na-h-ards queen grew jealous of the castle and the king obeyed her and took the castle.
These young men then made haste and told Manannan and Manannan rode down and lifted the rods and the sea came in. Then he rode around the castle and said from this day forward this bay shall be called Strabreagy or the lying strand.
