Ar an leathanach seo
- The people in olden times were very good at basket-making. They could make any kind of baskets from shopping baskets to heavy potato baskets and creels.
They made them out of sally rods. Some of the people spent all their time making baskets and selling them.
Other people just made their own supply as they required them. They made beautiful shopping baskets. They peeled the rods and let them dry and then wove them together and they dried out beautifully white.
People can still make their own baskets. Creels are still used for carrying turf and for selling fish. They are made out of hazel rods. The rods are steeped for some time and then the creel is made.
The rods are woven out and between strong pieces of wood.
Basket-making and the making of creels is carried on in the little fishing ports around here.
