    them with straw or put a bag in it. The old floors were made sometimes of large flag-stones but mostly of blue-clay.
    It is a common thing for a farm house to have a half door.
    In olden times they made mud-turf for the fire. They got a big hole in the bog and filled it with moss peat and mold.
    Then they tramped it and spread it out on the bank and levelled it. Next they cut it out in squares the same as we make bricks in these days.
    For giving light they made candles with long splinters of fur and they took that wherever they used dips and rushlights.
    Candles were not made locally but were bought in the shops.
