    About ninety years ago there was a Danish slave in the service of a man who resided in that part of Clonmary known now as the Cross.

    About ninety years ago there was a Danish slave in the service of a man who resided in that part of Clonmany known now as the Cross. His time was spent in herding cows, and rarely got anything to eat in his master' house. One day a cow with white horns joined the herd and the boy was crying from the hunger at the same moment. The cow had a black belt around her horns and she told the boy to put the belt around his waist and as long as he had the belt on him he would have plenty to eat but if he dared take it off he would starve.
    One day it was hurting him and he took it off and left it on the grass, and went to turn back the herd which was going into a field of corn. When he returned he met the cow which gave him the belt and she had it around her horns again. As she dashed past him, she said "When you get the belt again you will remember not to take it off.
    The boy followed after her and suddenly she ran between two rocks
