- One night in Autumn a Kinaglug woman named Biddie Mac Laughlin was coming home from Carndonagh after doing some shopping. As she neared Tom Smiths house she saw a woman ahead. So she decided to over-take her, and it was not long until she was beside the quick-pacing woman. Her shawl was dragging on the dry road. Biddie thought she was her old chum Mary Ann Mac Cole. Her voice echoed in the loneliness of the night saying "How are you doing, Mary Ann, it's a very cold night to be wandering about".
The woman bared her teeth at Biddie and disappeared. She nearly fainted with fear and she ran with all haste towards home. Ever afterwards she would not go out after dark without someone with her.- Collector
