One evening a few friends and I agreed to pay a visit to my mothers Mother - She was delighted to see us and began to put out guesses-
- What is this she said
I washed my hands in water that neither rose nor run, And I dried them in a towel that was neither wove nor spun
She told us the answer after we had failed to make out the riddle.
- The dew was the water, and the sun the towel
I went out between two woods, and came back Between two waters, was the rest
We did not get that one either; as wooden buckets are not now used, so she informed us, She said "I used to go to the well for water with two wooden buckets." and when these were filled with water. - I returned between two waters." These were riddles - she said - that were told to her by her Grandfather when she was a small girl.
She told us then how she was dressed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
