    During the nineteenth century machinery came into use.
    Before this period nearly all the corn was cut with the scythe, the sickle went into nooks & corners.

    - these two ends were flattened & a hole made in each by a hot iron pierced through, then the leather thong was put through & tied firmly in 2 or 3 knots.
    About 20 years since flail was in use in this district
    Used for threshing the grain out of the ears of corn. It was made from two pieces of sticks, jointed with a piece of leather.
