   Long years ago there were people living in the Ross called the Sweeney Dubhs. One night in winter a young small man came into them and asked a nights lodging. He was granted this. In the morning when the people of the house rose and saw the smart looking youth they asked him if he would stay with them and work. Being glad of the offer the youth accepted the situation.

   He worked about the house and could finish a hard job in very little time. He laboured hard putting in cows, milking and so on and people could find no fault to him.

   One evening, however, he was late in putting in the cows so the old man of the house began to complain and scold him and in the end he made a wipe at him with his stick. The young servant began to grin and make faces at him. From the ground he cut a jump and lit stride-legs on a crossbar of the house about twelve feet high. He was no longer a young boy but an old man with a long gray whisker and two big long black teeth. He made faces and grins down at the old man, who stood on the middle of the floor. The latter became afraid of the former and went to run outside, but the old man jumped from the crossbar and lit in the street before him. He then ran up a steep rock and was seen no more.
