  1. Macamish Tower was built in the year 1803. It is situated down below Eddie Gallagher's fields or below the Golf links. It was used as a fortification on the banks of Lough Swilly against foreign invaders. It belongs to the Government. There are four fortified places along the two coasts of Lough Swilly. Three on the other side of the lough and one on this side. There are two at the mouth named Leenan and Dún Ríogh and one on Inch Island, and also Macamish Tower on this side.
The English soldiers held Leenane and Dún Ríogh until the end of September 1938 when they left and the Irish soldiers fortified them.
I heard Macamish tower got its name from the name MacCammas (?)
