Some of the unlucky days are supposed to be Saturday or Monday and some of the unlucky months are February and April.
Matches are not usually made in this district and there is no dowry or goods given when anybody gets married.
It is custom for people to get married privately in their own house by paying for a special licence.
Some customs are to go away on a honeymoon or to go to a big hotel and have a feast on the wedding day.
Some of the people used to go home on horseback along with their wives. This was instead of going away for a while. They had a reception at home. My father told me the following rhyme.
"Marry on Monday, marry for health,
Marry on Tuesday, marry for wealth,
Marry on Wednesday, the best day of all,
Marry on Thursday, marry for losses,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
