- The people that have small farms usually live by basket making. These are some of the men who used to make them, Corney Gallagher, Sam Alcorn, Patrick Harkin, Charley Duffy, Robert Brannan, James Barrett, James Fisher, Joe Harrison and Edward Brogan. They made them in different shapes, round ones, square ones, oval shaped ones and many other shapes. They made them out of sally rods.First they cut the sally rods then they roasted them in the hot ashes so that they would not brake when they were bent. They put an iron hoop round the top to keep it firm.Churn making
There was a man in Glenalla who used to make churns. His name was Wm. Alcorn. He made them out of oak boards. He put iron hoops on them. He charged ten shillings and one pound and according to the size. He also made a churn staff and sold it with the churn.Thatching
