- The present school was built in the year [?] by Captain Finick who was then landlord of the district. The land was known as "Bishop's Land" and was given to Captain Finick's wife as part of her dowry. She was the daughter of the Church of Ireland Bishop of this district. It was 24' long and 14' wide, the building was thatched and had a clay floor. Mr. Mooney, Kilmacrenan was the first teacher appointed. Then there were Messrs Taylor, Bailey, Ramsey and Simms.
The next teacher taught for a few years then went to a Training College. During her absence the substitute broke some of the rules and the school was closed and "struck off" the register.
After some time the people of the locality held meetings to see what could be done to re-open the school. The proposals were sent to the Education Office and a representative came to investigate. The result was the school had to be enlarged as the floor space was too small. So the north end of the building was extended 8'. When the conditions of the school were satisfactory the "Board" made inquiries as to where a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
