  1. About a mile from Lismore a monastery is situated. It is called the Monastery of Lismore. Its ruins are to be seen at the end of a deep quarry. The foundation stones are to be seen yet It is said that it was built there because of the Danes. It was so secluded that they could not find it.
    During the 9th century it was surrounded by the Danes and a great battle was fought there between the monks and the Danes It is said that there is a secret passage which was connected with St Carthage's Monastery Lismore. Graves of
