  1. In olden times people had great belief in the existence of fairies and spirits of all kind evil and otherwise. Several small hills sometimes called moats throughout the country were supposed to be the abode of this class of folk.
    In the townland of Ryndville near Enfield Co. Meath there is a small moat which the old people believed was haunted. They would tell you the fairies stood in a ring round the moat at twelve o'clock midnight with hands clasped and danced to the strains of music the like of which was never heard. Some people were foolish enough to go there at midnight hoping to see only to return as the old Irish saying is With one hand as long as the other. Whether the story is true or not we have no means of knowing
