- When fleeing from an enemy St. Colmcille had recourse to prayer. He knelt on a rock bending down out of sight of the enemy so that his hands also rested on the stone. He escaped from the pursuers. Along the road between Churchhill and Glendowan is a flat stone with impressions which by tradition are those of the saint as he knelt there in prayer. Up till very recently old men and women knelt on this stone to pray to Colmcille.
- When St Colmcille was building an abbey at Gartan, men went to help him but at last one man grew tired of the work, and pretended to be sick when the saint went to his house for him. When Colmcille heard his excuse he was doubtful about it and said "If you are sick may you soon be well but if you are well you may soon be sick."(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
