  1. One day about fifty years ago when the ships used to come in to the pier a Portnoo with Indian meal, there came a dreadful storm. It was a ship called the "Enterprise" that came that particular day. When it came in between the Island and Dun Mor the wind got so strong that the ship could not get any farther. The meal was wanted very badly and when the news reached Portnoo the people were in great despair.
    At that time there was a bishop living in Portnoo called Doctor John McDevitt. The men of the place delivered the news to him and told him of the great want of meal. He put his head out of the window and began to read some holy book that he had. In an instant the waters were calmed and the ship was able to land safely.
