Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Bonfires were lighted on St John's eve. Nearly every house had a little bonfire.
The young people of a townland also assisted in gathering material for one real big bonfire, where all gathered round. Many sports and pastimes were indulged in round the fire. When the fires had burned out, those present took away the burned cinders and scattered them through the fields of growing crops.
This was believed to bring "good luck" and prosperity.
