Many stories are told about fairies and one of these stories is as follows, Once upon a time there was a man and his wife living in St. Johns Point. He had very bad luck for a long time. One night when he was out playing cards an old woman came in and asked for lodging the man's wife said the boss was out and that she would see when he would come in. But the old woman said "He wont put me out anyway" The old woman waited for the man to come in. When he came in she greeted him calling him by his name. He asked her how she knew his name and she said "she knew everything". She told him he lost his best cow over the bank last year. He said "this was not true" But she said "All I said and all I am going to say is true". She told him he was nearly lost on the Bar of Cualmor last year only for a friend of (his) yours. When you awakened one morning you found your child crying at the door. Then the woman gave him a coin to keep her for ever. She slept in the bed in the kitchen when the man arose she was gone. The man showed the coin to the priest and the priest kept it although the man begged it he never saw the old woman again.
