- The old people long ago ate three meals every day one at ten o clock one at two and one at seven o clock. Before breakfast they had a big bowl of oat porridge and for breakfast they had oat meal bread. For dinner they had potatoes and milk and sometimes fish or meat. The people were very healthy and had good appetites. Before they took their breakfast they went out and worked and then had a good appetite. The people used to put the potatoes into a basket in the middle of the floor and then the members of the house would sit around the basket and eat their dinner. In some houses this old custom still is kept. Before cups were invented the people used tins and bowls. In olden times there was no tea and the people who were able to get tea were thought very rich.
