  1. One time a man named James Gallagher taught school in the townland of Laghey-bar under a rock.
    All the scholars were over 20 years of age. They learned how to read and write. They wrote on slates with bits of stones.
    The master had one book and every scholar took his turn in reading out of it. They had seats made of rocks.
    Every scholar brought the master something for his trouble.
    This master had only one hand and the people called him “Fisty”.
