    Long ago when the Penal laws were in force in Ireland there were no churches built in which the priests could say Mass. The priests to say Mass in houses, old sheds and behind hedges.
    There was an old shed in the townland of Aughadren near Laghey, Co Donegal in which Mass was said by a priest named Fr. O’Donnell. He stayed for three nights in the home of my great grandfather, John Connolly. This old shed was known for long afterwards as “the Mass Shed.”
