    In the townland of Ballymagroarty marriages take place during all the months of the year. Up to a few years ago they were more common before Lent and Advent.
    November is considered the most unlucky month Nuptial feasts. Here is a rhyme we often hear repeated about lucky and unlucky days.
    Monday for health,
    Tuesday for wealth,
    Wednesday the best day of all,
    Thursday for losses,
    Friday for crosses,
    Saturday no day at all;
    On the second last Saturday of Shrove all the young girls of marriageable age dressed in their Sunday best, went to the local fair
