- There is a saying that you should throw your candle and candle-stick away on St. Patrick’s Day. The Irish people send shamrocks to their Irish friends in America to wear on St Patrick’s Day and the people in Ireland of course wear them also. It is a custom to make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, it is often called Pancake Day. The old people call it Shraft Tuesday. It is a custom to eat eggs on Easter Sunday.It is supposed not to be lucky to go to bed on Whit Sunday during the day and sleep. It is supposed to be unlucky to the born on Whit Sunday. Some people would not bury and animal if they knew it was born on Whit Sunday. Some people gather many flowers May Eve and put them on the window sill to bring luck. It was an old custom where different families used water from the same well to try and get to the well first on May Day morning and who ever got the first bucket of water from the well was supposed to have more butter on the cow’s milk than their neighbours’ that summer.
