- Before the wool was spun it had to be washed and then carded. Two little boards with wire teeth were used for carding it. There was a handle on each of them. The wool was put inside these and combed or carded until it was as soft and fine as silk.The women spun it on their spinning wheels into yarn.There were several weavers in the district and the people sent the yarn to them and they wove it into cloth. It was called “Irish Home Spun” [sic]
