- One time a number of years ago there was a mill in Pettigo which employed both women and men.
There was Indian corn ground to make Indian meal also oats made into Oat Meal.
Flax was also brought in by the farmers and cleaned for them by a process called "Scutching". Women also worked at the flax and their work was called "Streaking"[?]
This was sent away and made into linen.
There was a saw mill also for sawing timber.
This mill is still at work but the others are stopped for some years.
The mill was burned down over forty years ago but was afterwards rebuilt.
Women do not work in the mill now, it is only carried on by men
