- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)potatoes. She grates the potatoes and then takes the starch out of them. She boils the starchy part of the potatoes for about five minutes. Then it is ready to starch the clothes.Starch made out of cornflour. The cornflour is mixed with cold water to blend it. It is stirred then and boiling water is poured on it until it thickens. Cold water is added to it then to thin it down for the clothes.
- Mrs. Alexander Anderson, Tubber, Cavangarden, makes her own soap. She buys fat from the butcher. This fat has to be nearly rotten. She renders the fat. She also puts caustic soda in it when she is boiling it. About two stones of fat and one pound of caustic soda make about 20 or 30 lbs. of soap.
