Horses usually have got names, because, when he out in the field when he is called by his name he comes to you.
Cows usually have not got names, because, when they are wanted in from the field they have to be driven in or if there is a good dog he can drive them home. When calling cows you call chee! chee! calves - suck! suck!
The cowhouse is called a byre and the cows are tied with chains to iron stakes. These chains are made by the blacksmith and there is a big ring through which the iron stake goes, then the chain can move up or down the stake. The chain is fastened round the cow’s neck.
In some cases cows are tied by the horns with a rope, but this way is not much used nowadays.
The horse’s house is called a stable if there is only one horse in the stable he is usually loose, but if there are more than one a rope is tied round his neck, and this is fastened(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
