- The following are the farm animals at my home, - the cow, calf, pig, horse, donkey, sheep, goat, hen, turkey, duck, and the goose.
When driving cows in or out of a field we cry "hiup".
The following is the description of a cow-house. There are sixteen stands in our cow-house. The floors are made of concrete. The byre is well lighted. The roof is made of wood and iron. The walls are limewashed frequently. Each cow has her own separate stand.
These cow-houses are commonly known as byres.
In each stand there is a stake to which is tied a chain. The cow stands at the stake, and the chain is tied around the cows neck. That is how the cows are tied.
The chains are made of steel. In some country places ropes take the place of the chains.
The material for the tying is seldom home-made.
Usually there is a branch or emblem hung in the cow-house to bring luck(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
