  1. In and around the district of Ballyshannon the people say that whenever the sky is a red or pink colour over the sea it is a sign of an approaching thunder storm.
They also believe that when the swallows fly high it is the sign of good weather.
When there are blue flames in the fire, and when the wood-work in the doors and windows creak it is a sign of a great storm.
When there is a severe wind blowing from the North, it is a sure sign of snow.
When the sea gulls fly towards the shore it is a sign of bad weather.
There are also many signs of rain. For example when the cat sits with her back to the fire, when the peacock cries, when birds fly low, the moon looks pale, the distant hills look nigh, the ducks quack loudly, the dog eats grass, the cricket sings sharp, when we see the sea gulls fly to land we may look for a storm at sea - these are all signs of rain.
