  1. People never had more than three meals a day, breakfast, dinner and supper. People usually get up at four o’clock in the morning and worked until about eight when they had breakfast. Each meal consisted chiefly of potatoes if the people had them and if not porridge. Butter milk was the chief drink. Potatoes were put in a wooden ring called a “hoop” which was placed on the centre of the table. This “hoop” was bottomless. The table was placed sometimes on the centre of the floor and all sat around it. Tables were sometimes attached to the wall by means of an iron
