  1. Once there was a woman, who when she would be going to Mass would put a stone in a box.
Every Sunday before she would go, she would dress herself up, for everybody to be admiring her lovely clothes.
So one morning it fell late on her, and when she heard the church bell ringing, she threw on her old shawl, and hurried on very quickly.
But when she was dying she looked in the box, to see how many masses she had heard, but to her great surprise, there was only one in it.
That was the Sunday she did not do herself up, for everybody to see her.
There was also a man once, who died without saying his penance.
The maid in the house had to go each evening, for water to the well.
When he had been dead about a week, she went as usual to the well, and she saw him standing there, three successive nights.
She got such a fright, that she went, and told the parish priest.
He said he would go with her, to see if it was true, and to question him.
So they went, and sure enough, they saw the dead man standing in the same place.
