  1. About a day before Stephens Day all the boys go rambling around the field, looking for a furze bush, but the boys call it a wren-bush. When they find a suitable bush, they cut off a branch and pare the thorns off the end of the branch to make a grip for their hands. Then they bring it home and decorate it with post cards and other coloured papers, then they leave it in a safe place for the next morning. On Stephens morning the boys get ready to go out, the first thing they do is to go outside
