- Bird- Lore
Around this district there are a lot of birds such as blackbirds, robins, larks, crows, sparrows, swallows and corncrakes. The swallow migrates to a warmer land in autumn.
The blackbird is a bird about the same size as a jackdaw.
It builds its nest in a thick thorny hedge. The nest which is made of hay, moss and feathers is very comfortable. The blackbird lays five eggs which are blue with brown spots. They are hatched after three weeks.
The young birds are small at first. After two weeks they are as big as a robin. They are then fairly strong. soon afterwards they learn to fly and then leave the nest. They stay in Ireland all the year.
The blackbird is a very sweet singer.
