- Old Crafts
Before modern machinery started in every town and village in Ireland there were crafts. In swords one of the old crafts was nailmaking. A man named Mc Evoy had a nail-factory in main St, Swords. Mr. Mc Evoy and his sons made all classes of nails.
The way they made the nails was; they got iron rods and heated them in a fire. When the rods were hot, they made points on the ends of them, and cut a piece off the ends of each rod and each piece was a nail.
They used the same implements that a Blacksmith uses.
