  1. There are numerous ways in which the schoolchildren amuse themselves, for instance playing guides, hop-scotch, marbles, Queen Ann, "ten-ticks", Bid-Burn, four corners, skipping, names of flowers and towns and many others. At Hallow Eve both grown-ups and children put nuts on the fire to watch them pop. Sometimes they place two nuts together naming one after a boy and another after a girl. If those two nuts stay together the by and girl will be married but if they separate they will not.
    During the long winter evenings another very popular game is "Pussy Hiding". all the players close their eyes except one. This player takes a button or any small article and hide it in some place in the room where she thinks it will not be found. She then calls out "Pussy hiding". The players then commence to search the room. If a girl goes near the hiding place she is told "she is warm." If she does not go near it she is told "she is cold." If nobody
