   Years ago there was a Protestant who owned a large farm near Duncannon in Co. Waterford. He was a large grower of wheat. On this occasion he ploughed a ten acre field to sow wheat in the month of October. On the tenth day of that month as he was sowing the wheat, a neighbour of his, an old man passed the road and said to the farmer "You will have a good crop there sir, please God."

   The farmer replied "Whether it pleases God or not it is a good field, and well manured, so there should be a good crop there."

   At the time when the wheat should be well overground, (about the beginning of December) there was no trace of it, or even of appearing in January, the farmer visited the fields several times during that month with the hope that from day to day he should see the wheat appearing.

   There was still no sign of it. He then got so annoyed at this bad luck he sold his farm. The man who bought it went out to plough up this field, which was a failure with the other man, when he saw a fine crop appearing overground. Of course then he did not disturb it and it turned out to be the finest crop in the Co. that year.
