day big, black clouds began to gather in the sky.
Mr. James Butler of Darrigle near Portlaw was working in the bog cutting rushes, with a few other men.
When the storm began they left the bog to come home and Mr Butler carried a scythe on his shoulder. He and his uncle were walking home, when a flash of lightning came and struck the man who died at that very moment.

  2. There was a snowstorm in the year 1917 in the county Waterford and it is said to have been a very severe one. The snow was over six feet on the ground in places and the people could not go out.
The snow began to fall about twelve o'clock on a Friday, and did not ease until Saturday morning.
The snow was on the dikes for a long time until the end of April.
