- Long ago there were many kinds of people going from house to house. Some of those people sold very useful things. There were different kinds of people such as the Barrys, the Conners, the Costicans, the Sohos, the Moylans and the Lannons.
There were other people going around selling clothes. Those people were called hawkers. The Barrys sold hair-pins, safety pins, tie-pins, studs, needles, laces, cups and saucers, hair brushes and clothes brushes. When the Barrys came around they always asked for horse hair because it is with the horse hair they make the brushes. The Conners used to mend buckets, churns, pota and kettles.
The Costicans used to sell tin buckets, gallons and quarts. The Moylans sold brooches, badges, needles, slides, combs and studs. The Lannons sold apples, badges, cups, jugs, saucers and plates.
