    Long ago all the people used to help each other when setting the potatoes. It was all ridges that used to be made long ago. First they used to be planted with a spade and trenched. After that they were second trenched and then they were cleaned well. The pits of potatoes are eight feet long and three feet in height. Then they are covered all over from the frost and snow in the winter. The potatoes are left in the pits for a few months. Then they are drawn into the barn. There was never any starch made out of the potatoes around here. Arran-Banners are the best kinds of potatoes around here.
