- There were fairs in places long ago where they are not now but why there was an end put to them I do not know. Some buyers go around from house to house buying some stock such as horses and pigs. If a man bought a horse he would not get the halter unless he would buy the halter seperately. There is earnest given on animals according to their value. Two or three shillings luck money are given on cattle and sixpence or a shilling on sheep and pigs. When the buyers are buying the cattle each of them makes a mark of his own on them with raddle. They also make a mark on pigs but it is different from the cattle. They get a pen-knife and put a scar on the pig's back with it. There is no seperate fairs now. All the animals are sold on the same day. The nearest fair around here is Youghal.
