- The bad times did not fall very heavy around here. The only bad times that fell around here were when the potatoes failed. When they failed the people used to eat turnips. All the potatoes failed around here one year. There was one family and the children all died. the father and mother lived a little longer and then the mother died. When the father was bringing her to the graveyard on his back he dropped dead himself. It was in ridges they used to set the potatoes. When the potatoes failed the people had yellow meal stirabout. The most of the people that died around here died from hunger.
