1. Tramps

   There is no tramp around this part of the country, only all that come from the parishes. Some farmers leave tramps in out houses for a night and long ago they used to leave them in their own houses and some of the neighbours used to go in to the house to hear them telling stories. When a tramp would come to the door and ask for alms, if you would give it to him he would say prayers. They say are "The Lord have mercy on all the poor souls that left you and that they may get a bed in heaven". Another pray they say is "That the Lord spare you your health". The tramps do not bring any food with them. In a farmer's house if they went in they would get their dinner if it was on. There was a tramp coming around to this parish a few years ago. His name was Mick the Flute. He used to carry a bag on his back and go around the street playing a fife and when he had one or two tunes played he would go into the houses for money. He used also go to football and hurling matches that were held far and near and collect money from all the people that used be at the matches. It was said that he died in the hospital about three years ago. There was a tramp woman named Mary Lanen she came around here. She used to carried a basket with and in it had pins, shirt studs and badges.
