- We have a churn at home. There are different kinds of churns, the old fashioned churn is about 3 ft high and about twelve inches wide at the top and eighteen inches wide at the end. The churns that are seen around here now are round churns laid horizontally up on a stand with a handle at each end to twist them. It takes about one hour to make a churn of butter. In some churns it is very easy to know when the butter is made as there is a little piece of glass is clear it is a sign the butter is made. When the butter is made it is taken out and washed. In Summer time the butter has to be made about three times a week but in Winter it has only to be made once a week.
