It is said gold is hidden in many places throughout the country. In Cooneen there is a big rock and under this rock it is said there is a crock of gold. One night a man dreamt in Knockanore that he saw the crock of gold. One night he went to dig it and as he was digging it, a bull came up near him and at first the colour of the bull was black and after a while he turned white so the man ran home and as he was going in the door he got a pain in his head. He dreamt again about it that night and he came to dig it again and the same thing happened and it is said the gold is still there. There is another story told about a man who dreamt about a tin box of gold which was buried in a field where there used to be battles fought long ago. One night he went with another man to dig it an and they dug down about three feet. They found a flag which they took up and found the gold under it. It contained about two hundred pounds.
