- When people are churning they put a grain of salt on the lid and a quenched coal under the churn so that no one can bring the butter away.
It is said if you throw out water when you are churning you are throwing out the butter.
If there is a person in the house when you are churning and if he goes out without leaving his hand on the dash he is suppposed to bring the butter with him.
When a cow is for calfing the people put a read little purse on the cow's tail so that the fairies won't bring the butter or mil.
If a person falls in a graveyard it is said he will be the first to fill the grave after the corpse.
If four magpies are seen flying together it is a sure sign of a death.
If a knife or a dish cloth falls from a house keeper it is a sure sign of a stranger coming to the house.
