- Once there lived two men and one of them was called Small Fairly and the other was called Big Fairly. Small Fairly was a very small man and he had a very small mother. Big Fairly was a big man and he had a very big mother.
After a while Big Fairly got married and he put Small Fairly and his mother out on the road and all he gave them was a little cow and seven pence halfpenny. Every day Small Fairly would put his cow into Big Fairly's land. When Big Fairly would get the cow inhis land he would give Small Fairly a good beating. At last Big Fairly killed the cow on Small Fairly and then Small Fairly skinned the cow. He brought the hide of the cow to the fair the next day and he had money stuck here and there in it. While he was going through the fair he used to say. "The best of a golden hide from the Golden Vale" Every time he would strike the hide some money would fall out of it.
