  1. There was a man who had one son and he did not beat him or keep him down. So he grew up wild and went away before him and became a professional thief and was at that for years. And one day he came back to his father's house dressed up like a gentleman and he had his own carriage and pair of horses. And when his father saw him he did not know him. They went into the father's garden and viewed all the nice trees, When they came to one tree it was trained to grow downwards so he asked his father why the tree was growing downwards. The father told him that he trained it to grow that way when it was young, He then asked his father had he any children. The father said he had one son and that he grew up wild and went away. He then told his father that if he controlled him & kept down he might be with him now and be a good boy ; He then asked his father would he know his son if he seen him. The father said he would know his son anywhere by a mark that was on his left arm. The son then took off his coat and showed
